The Pink T-Shirt Day Society is a small, all volunteer, non-profit society in British Columbia, Canada. With our 5 volunteer directors, business sponsors, and the help of even more volunteers, we run our bullying prevention program each year (but the work starts way before February!). When one year is done, we look towards the next year. By purchasing a shirt, you help us continue to donate shirts to our local schools and help with other initiatives. Wearing a pink shirt on this day sends a strong message to victims of bullying that others care. Often, the simple act of wearing a shirt can start conversations - conversations can be a big step towards healing and helping! It is a task we all love, as each year people tell us what a difference we make, and that they are thankful for what we do. Hearing peoples stories, and what the campaign means to them keeps us going. If you can't reach us during the day, it may mean we are at our "day jobs"! Being a small non-profit, we do this in our spare time in the evenings and on the weekends. This is one reason why our telephone number isn't shown on our website -- we were getting a lot of calls in the middle of the night and in the wee hours of the morning from folks in different time zones! If you want to talk to us on the phone, just contact us and we will either give you our number or call you. History The idea comes from two Nova Scotia high school students in 2007. When a fellow student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, they decided to take a stand. They went out and bought pink shirts to give to fellow students to show their support for a boy who was being bullied simply for wearing a pink shirt. So... when we heard about this, we decided to do something here! In 2009 and 2010, Anne at Annie's Boutique in Nelson BC bought some pink t-shirts and gave them to the area schools. Then, in 2011,and each year since, we were able to expand on the offering with the help of some sponsors! Annie's Boutique closed its doors in 2014, but we formed a society to keep on with Pink T-Shirt day! The Pink T-Shirt Day Society will be here for years to come to continue the campaign.
